The Belly is Small

Three days ago, a friend from church came to visit. She too is pregnant, and we happen to be due the same week in October. She isn't a large woman, not even medium sized. She's been a dancer all her life, and is very slim.

I was shocked then, when she entered the apartment and looked about three months more pregnant than me! We are both 21 weeks along, but next to her my stomach looked like a flat, six-pack! Suddenly, it dawned on me that I am what they call "a small pregnant woman."

Several people have said to me over and over, "You're hardly showing!" or "You're belly is so small!" Even my OBGYN jokingly said, "You're so thin, you make me sick!" I have taken mild offense to all these comments, because I enjoy being pregnant and I am ready for the world to SEE that I'm pregnant.

Of course, by my standards, my stomach has ballooned. It's much larger then I've ever been around the middle, and I'm already beginning to get back pains. In my mind, my middle is as big as a house!

Over Memorial Day weekend, my mother took this picture. It's supposed to show my grandmother how much I've "grown." Sadly, my stomach looks almost normal. Just a small bump.

Ah, well. At least I feel the baby kicking and moving frequently. At least I have ultrasounds to prove that the life inside of me is now 8-9 inches long. Otherwise, I might not believe that I'm even pregnant!

Audrey is growning like crazy--eating rice cereal and veggies (NOT together!), sitting up, rolling over, and starting to belly crawl! (For Grandma first!) She also appears to be growing RED hair! Red hair and blue eyes! Killer!

Nobody else yet, that I've been told about.

Hug the Taylor Tot for me!

You really are pretty tiny! I wonder if your tummy will get a lot bigger in your last weeks or if you'll just be one of those tiny pregnant women all along. Glad to see you're doing better!

Oh to be you, Christin! I already feel like I'm showing and am two months behind you! I attributed it to the fact that I am small-boned, but your size kind of kills my self-assuring theory. :)

You look adorable Christin (hope you're ok with that adjective). And if I saw you in person I would think that you were pregnant for sure (not that I would ask or anything...too taboo). ;)

Marcia - Audrey, what a great name. Dwayne and I are flip flopping on girl's names (boy names haven't proved to be as difficult). All the one's I think are pretty have really strange meanings. And all the one's that have pretty meanings, I think sound strange. Alas!

Jess - this is exactly what I wondered. Maybe I'll get to the end of my pregnancy and be one of those women who still doesn't look entirely pregnant!

Sarah - You comment makes me laugh, becuase I remember thinking the same thing. I thought, I'm tiny so I'm sure I'll stick out really far. Nope. Hasn't been the case at all. Really, I have no idea how this baby is fitting in my torso.

Jaena - Oh, thank you! I'm glad it doesn't look like a beer gut. ;-)

Umm, somehow I missed this bit of news...Congratulations to you two (three). Just make sure the name is a fitting for this Canadian-American hybrid super-baby!
