What makes someone interesting?
Tonight after dinner, Dwayne and I put our feet up on the couch and laid on the ground side by side. Our discussion rambled over many topics, but we landed on this question: What makes someone interesting?
"People who are up on current events, and who have ideas outside of the mainstream are interesting to me," said Dwayne.
I thought about it some more. If I had to put it into a sentence, I guess I'd say, "People who embody contradictions are interesting to me."
For example, Anne Lamott is interesting because she's a white woman with dreadlocks. One of my friends was born and raised in orange county, but she chose to live in Los Angeles and works with ESL students. Another friend is a sheek girl from the Valley who speaks her mind like an African American woman.
What about you? What makes someone interesting to you?

what makes someone interesting? for me, it's passion, but not too much; laughter; patience; and if they think i'm interesting.
christin, blog ettiquette suggests that one should not link to others unless one knows them personally, but i might have to break that rule because YOU are interesting even though i've never met you in real life.
in general, what makes someone interesting to me? 1) they have the courage to be who they are despite the pressures of their social contexts.
1b) they have a healthy acceptance of their own human-ness and realize that being human does not contradict being holy/a good person; they are free to talk about the daily mundane.
3) humour.
4) do not fit into typical stereotypes.
5) they are more loyal to Jesus and the preserving the dignity of others than to the success of a system.
5b) they don't "use" other people for a political/social end.
6) creative expression.
Hey Tin, I just wanted to stop in and say hello! I saw your Uncle Dan on Saturday. My church is doing a New Year's Eve Gaither-esque concert and Dan is singing in it with us. He sat directly behind me during rehearsals, and tears were streaming down my face as he sang a verse to "Redeemed." It was SO good to hear his voice again! On another note, I know your birthday is coming up, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY a little early. :)
Alright, so I've given this one some thought. I've been chewing on it for a few days and I'm ready to give my answer. Someone that has common interests and similar beliefs, background, and lifestyle as me is a person that I can easily connect with and befriend. I greatly enjoy and get along with those type of people. BUT someone that has a totally different background and lifestyle and has experienced things I know nothing about, is who I find interesting. Also, a person that I can learn something of value from is interesting and intriguing to me.
One of the reasons I was attracted to Brandon was that he was this punk rock dude that had the important things in common with me, but that I didn't have all figured out. He was a mysterious man that I needed to find out more about! :) Thanks for the fun and thought provoking discussion.
ap: "and if they think i'm interesting." Ah yes! You are so honest! Yet, I think it's true for most of us. Also, I wonder if we find interesting in others, what we perceive to be true about ourselves.
Jo: "they have a healthy acceptance of their own human-ness and realize that being human does not contradict being holy/a good person." It is for this reason that you should read _Godric_! I thought of you when I wrote the latest post.
